PERNEM: RTI activist Sudip Tamhankar has urged suspended Transport Department officer from Pernem Kamlakar Karapurkar to name the person who directed him to inaugurate the ‘illegal’ taxi counter at the Mopa International Airport.
Tamhankar, while speaking to reporters on Saturday, said the decision to suspend the official was unfortunate on humanitarian grounds, but was the right decision as he had participated in an illegal practice .
Tamhankar expressed surprise about the transport official’s stand, wherein he had claimed that the counter would not be opened on the previous day, but he had himself inaugurated the counter the very next day.
“The people of Pernem should know how the laws are bent as per the wishes of some forces. The dignitaries present during the inauguration function need to be investigated,” said Tamhankar.
Tamhankar along with Rupesh Kubralkar, Raju Narse and other taxi operators met Road Transport Officer Rajesh Naik and urged him to follow legal procedures, to grant justice to the taxi operators from Pernem.
“The Chief Minister and Tourism Minister have selected 55 taxi operators as Goencho Taxi Patrav. The CM himself has said that those who couldn’t ride a cycle have become taxi patrav now. Isn’t it some kind of a joke?” he questioned.
