PANJIM: Junior engineer electricity department and RTI activist Kashinath Shetye has come under scanner of India Against Corruption (IAC) for illegally converting the ground floor of a residential area into commercial.
At a press conference, Thursday, Goa representative in the IAC central core committee Dinesh Vaghela on Thursday accused Shetye of converting two ground floor flats of a residential building Navagauri apartment, Porvorim into commercial premises, creating great harassment to the residence of the building.
IAC has demanded thorough probe by government machinery.
Vaghela said that total seven shops are being constructed by demolishing two flats, without prior permission from society and government authorities. “When we contacted town and country planning department, we were informed that the building is marked as only residential area and not commercial,” he stated.
The seven shops include wine shop (Viva Goa), electrical shop, sweet mart, internet cafe, royal foods and computer store.
Vagela said that several complaints are been filed before Porvorim police under section 133 of CrPC for public nuisance but police failed to pursue the matter.
Vagela said that for the last couple of months, he has purposely started harassing the residents blocking the access to the building by throwing garbage in the surrounding area thus choking the sewage line. “We had made recommendations to health department and also to FDA but no one turned up,” he claimed.
