VASCO: The office of Assistant Director of Transport, Vasco collected revenue of as Rs 60.59 lakh from issuance of fancy and VIP registration numbers during the last year.
Informing this to mediapersons, Assistant Director of Transport, Vasco, Rajesh G Naik on Thursday said that many vehicles including two-wheelers, four-wheelers and other type of vehicles were registered last year with about 160 persons, both two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners were given fancy number plates which fetched Rs 60.59 lakh to the department.
According to Naik, the trend for opting fancy number plates is increasing and in the first month of January this year, as many as 20 persons have already taken fancy numbers for their new vehicles and the department earned Rs 65,000.
Naik said that often some vehicle owners in the State consider old numbers as lucky and try to seek the same number or repeat the number even if it is odd number from the department while registering their new vehicle/s.
“Some owners choose their own, parents, children’s birthday, wedding date besides, some have liking for combination and VIP numbers like 1111, 7777, 1234 etc,” he said.
In the year 2021, a total of 108 persons opted for preferred numbers at the time of registration of their new vehicle/s in Vasco and a total of Rs 33.24 lakh was collected. The revenue collection from such registration numbers increased by Rs 27.35 lakh last year with the number of owners increasing to 160. As many as 5,399 new vehicles were registered last year which included 3,437 two-wheelers, 1,518 four-wheelers, 218 taxis and 226 other vehicles and from these, 160 persons took the preferred VIP and fancy registration numbers, Naik said.
