“If the pillion rider fails to pay the fine, then necessary action will be initiated against him under the Motor Vehicle Act,” Naik told Herald.
RTO official on condition of anonymity informed that they cannot cancel/suspend the driving licence of the pillion rider. “As the offence is booked by Vasco Traffic Cell, the traffic cell should direct the RTO about the period of suspension of the licence,” said the official.
When brought to his notice that the traffic cell has also mentioned in its report to cancel the registration of the bullet, the official refused to comment.
It may be recalled that after Herald highlighted a minor boy riding a bullet with the pillion rider on Tuesday, the Vasco Traffic Cell summoned the minor boy, the pillion rider and the bullet owner to Vasco Traffic Cell and booked the minor boy and the pillion rider for rash and negligent riding in the city and also for allowing the minor boy to ride the bullet. The Vasco Traffic Cell had also booked the motorcycle owner and sent the report to Vasco RTO to cancel/suspend the driving licence of the pillion rider and cancel the registration of the two-wheeler.
