RTO warns owners of rental bikes for parking haphazardly around Margao Muncipality building

MARGAO: RTO officials assured to initiate strict action against all the owners of the rental bikes occupying the parking area in and around the Margao Municipal building.

A special meeting was held to deliberate on the issue at the Margao Municipal Council and the officials stated that they would survey the areas for violations and act accordingly.

It may be recalled that recently, Councillor Amonkar had objected against the rental bikes being parked around the municipal building, besides few other places for a long duration thus depriving others to park their vehicles, upon which the above meeting of all the concerned departments was called to deliberate on the issue. 

Vinod Shirodkar, President of New Market Vendors Association and Rajendra Azgaonkar, representative of Gandhi Market Vendors Association also attended the meeting. 

Speaking to reporters after the meeting RTO official Jimmy Rebello said that they would carry out a survey and show cause notices will then be served to the owners of the rental bikes who violate. The rules 

“We will be able to find out the bike owners after the survey as these rental bikes are not entitled to park in the way alleged by the councillors of the civic body,” he stated. 

Councillor Amonkar informed that at the meeting all admitted that the owners of the rental bikes are not allowed to park their bikes around the municipal building for a long duration. 

Demanding strict action, Vinod Shirodkar said that these rental bikes; parked in and around the municipal building cannot be tolerated. 

“We need action and not just issuing challan. The licences should be cancelled,” said Shirodkar. 

Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson, MMC said that it is mandatory to have a license to rent a bike business and also necessary to clarify the place from which the business will be operated. 

“As per the discussion held in the meeting, it is mandatory to show the business licence as well as the location for renting a bike business. We have asked for the list of those who have been given such licences from the Municipal area”, he stated. 

He said that he has asked the municipal officials to verify the information given by the RTO officials that a person has been given a license by the municipality.
