For first time, two presidents are appointed to lead the festival

VASCO: Ruckus was witnessed during the Vasco Shigmotsav committee meeting on Thursday over the appointing committee president. The mob split into two groups over the election of Mormugao Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti (MNSS) head. Amidst chaotic situation and heated arguments, at last two presidents were appointed for the first time in the history of Vasco Shigmotsav festival.
At the shigmotsav committee meeting, some members even demanded appointment of fresh committee with new president to lead Vasco Shigmostsav samiti. The meeting was chaired by MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut and other councillors.
At the meeting, some members opined that Shekhar Khadapkar should remain president for the tenth consecutive year, but another group demanded that former MMC chairperson Deepak Naik be named new president.
A request for using lots was rejected by MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut citing that this method was not followed to elect president of MNSS. Raut also requested both the candidates to decide among themselves as to who would lead the MNSS committee this year. Amidst ruckus Nandaddep Raut declared both the candidates Khadapkar and Naik as presidents of the MNSS. This was for the first time that MNSS will have two presidents.
Later, speaking to media, Raut informed that that Shekhar Khadapkar would only be taking charge in case there was a code of conduct, though two presidents were appointed, Deepak Naik would be the person taking control of MNSS and would be the signing authority.
The other members of MNSS Committee are Audhoot Naik, Santosh Naik, Vasudev Amonkar, Damodar Tandel, Shridhar Mardolkar, Reema Sonurlekar, Umesh Salgaonkar, Manesh Arolkar, Tara Kerkar, Nitin Chopdekar, Lavu Narvekar and Nilesh Navelkar as vice presidents, Santosh Kerkar as secretary, Prashant Narvekar, Baburao Revankar and Vishal Surlekar as joint secretaries, Pratap Gaonkar as treasurer, Suresh Naik as joint treasurer and Vinod Kinlekar as Yuva president.
However, Khadapkar and his supporters refused to accept the committee formed by Raut saying he (Raut) could not appoint committee members and that members had to be appointed as per procedures and with the noting in the register maintained by secretary.
