Ruling Davorlim VP body does not owe allegiance to Cong, says Churchill

Asserting that his group has five Panch members in the 11-member Davorlim Village Panchayat, PWD Minister and Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao has said that the ruling body does not owe allegiance to the Congress party.
A day after newly-elected Davorlim Sarpanch Francisco Sebestiao Dias claimed that his ruling is aligned to the Luizinho Faleiro group; the PWD Minister said his group of Panchas in the Davorlim panchayat is with the Congress party.
“I have five panch members with me in Davorlim panchayat. They are the Navelim block Congress president Leon Raicar, Mahila Congress president Rajini Raicar, Arcanjo, Fatima and Minguelina. My group did not contest elections for the post of Sarpanch following the stay obtained by the disqualified panch member. I will ascertain the grounds for granting the stay by the court. My group will contest the post after two months”, Alemao asserted.
“The ruling panchayat body is not with the Congress. Only my five panchas are with the Congress party”, he reiterated.
A member of the Alemao group in Davorlim panchayat Leon Raicar said the group did not contest the polls after panch member Martin Rocha obtained a stay from the Supreme Court on his disqualification. He said the five-member group is solidly behind the Congress and Alemao in Davorlim.
“We did not contest because the opposite group had a majority after the Supreme Court granted stay to Martin Rocha”, he said.
adding “our panch member Rajini Raicar was supposed to contest election for the post of Sarpanch, but we decided otherwise after the Supreme Court granted stay to Rocha”.
