MARGAO: The Rumdamol-Davorlim panchayat is all set to install two machines to help it deal with the garbage generated in the village by investing around Rs 60 lakh and the baling and composting machines are expected within the next three months.
On World Environment Day, the garbage treatment shed was inaugurated by local MLA Luizinho Faleiro. This shed is built over an area of 500 sq mts and constructed at the cost of Rs 35 lakh which were provided to the panchayat under the 14th Finance grants.
The panchayat has also been sanctioned Rs 60 lakh to purchase a baling machine that will bale the dry waste like plastic and paper and a separate composting machine that will convert wet waste into compost within 24 hours.
Rumdamol-Davorlim panchayat member Vinayak Volvoikar has appealed to the villagers to co-operate with the panchayat and help make the village a clean and beautiful place.
The panchayat has actually 18,000 square metres of open space that was gifted to them by the Housing Board and initially a garbage management centre for three panchayats was supposed to be jointly set up here.
However, the villagers objected to bringing garbage from other villages and expressed fears that the spillage on the road would be detrimental to the purpose of keeping the village clean. Hence the plant has been set up only for Rumdamol-Davorlim village while Davorlim-Dicarpale and Aquem-Baixo will have to make their own arrangements.
