Rumdamoll gram sabha passes Rs 6.71 lakh surplus budget

MARGAO: The Rumdamoll Davorlim gram sabha that lasted only 45 minutes approved a surplus budget of Rs 6,71,882 and if the opening balance of Rs 1.25 lakh is taken into account then the surplus works out to nearly Rs 1.32 crore.
The total receipts projected are Rs 1.85 crore while the total expenditure is pegged at around Rs 1.78 crore. Incidentally, the budget was passed without much discussion with only the secretary reading out the major heads under which provisions are made. Government grants is the highest revenue provider as it is projected to receive Rs 40.50 lakh as grants while Rs 6.42 lakh is projected to be receipts from taxes of which Rs 4.50 lakh would be from house tax.
Although the government has promised minimum Rs 2 lakh as grants to every panchayat for garbage management, Rumdamoll Davorlim panchayat has provided to receive only Rs 1 lakh as till date no panchayat has been given more than that amount.
Expenditure on public works is the highest as it is pegged at Rs 94 lakh while the expenditure on Administration is Rs 28.17 lakh and Rs 20.10 lakh is provided for sanitation and public health. Incidentally the panchayat has provided Rs 1 lakh for poverty alleviation.
While only five of the seven panchayat members attended the gram sabha that had a total attendance of 32 people. As no villager had given any suggestion for discussion at the gram sabha, it was over within 45 minutes after the budget was approved.
