Rundown toilets at Ponda bus stop finally razed to pave way for upgrade

PONDA: After two months of closure, the government has commenced the demolition of the dilapidated toilet complex at Ponda Old Bus Stand. This move is part of the planned construction of a new and improved toilet facility at the same location by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).

The deteriorating condition of the old complex had prompted its closure two months ago, leaving passengers, especially women, in a difficult situation due to the lack of alternative or temporary arrangements. O Heraldo had previously highlighted the plight of women passengers who were facing severe hardships without adequate toilet facilities.

Social worker Viraj Sapre criticised the authorities for the delay in addressing the issue and urged them to work on a war footing to construct and complete the new toilet block. The Ponda Bus Stand serves as a crucial transit point for thousands of people daily.

Simultaneously, alongside the demolition process, the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has initiated the construction of temporary bio-toilets at another site to provide immediate relief to passengers.
