Rural routes in Ponda resemble Panjim’s smart roads

2 km road stretch passing between Ramnathi and Undir is completely defaced due to digging of road, incomplete sewerage and underground power cabling works causing severe hardships to commuters

PONDA: With the monsoon fast approaching, people residing along the 2 km road stretch passing through Ramnathi, Talule, Bokadbag and Undir are alarmed to see the road condition at Ramnathi, Talule, Bokadbag, Undir which has been turned into a war battered zone, due to digging of road, incomplete sewerage and underground  power cabling works.

Consequently, this road stretch has become unmotorable. At several places, the road stretch has been dug up to lay sewerage chambers and power cables, making life difficult for commuters. In fact, the road passing through Ramnathi has been closed to lay a sewage chamber.

Digging of road has also damaged water pipelines, causing hardships for the local residents as it has caused water scarcity in this scorching summer.

With monsoon round the corner, people fear that if the roads are not repaired in time, there will be water logging and it would turn slushy, which could make movement even more difficult and raise the risk of accidents.

While the locals want development work they said good planning and  timely completion of development works to avoid monsoon chaos the workers at site said they are trying to finish their sewerage and power cabling work before May end.

However locals fear even if those works get completed road conditions would not improve and may create hardship to them in monsoon while now it is dust pollution they are facing.

Local resident, Tulishidas Naik said, “No road digging work should be undertaken in the month of May as monsoon is about to set in.”

Locals said that work on sewerage projects in Bokadbag-Ramnathi was going on for almost a decade and now there is underground cabling work for the last one year.

While the residents support development efforts, they have stressed on the need for the authorities to minimise the hardships faced by them. With the monsoon round the corner, they asked for immediate remedial measures to reduce the hardships.
