PANJIM: The sleuths of the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) arrested a Russian for allegedly carrying out drug trade in the northern coastal belt at Pernem. The team arrested Maksim Kushani, 31, from a bar & restaurant at Ashvem while he was in possession of charas (weighing 480 gms), worth Rs 2.40 lakh.
The raid was conducted during the wee hours of Tuesday based on a tip-off that Kushani would arrive with the consignment for his prospective customer. The ANC officials said that the Russian is arrested under Section 20 (b) (ii) (B) of the NDPS Act and is remanded in police custody for interrogation.
Less than two months ago, four Russians were also caught red-handed for allegedly growing cannabis in an apartment at Mandrem, barely 6 kms from Ashvem where the fresh raid took place.
Their involvement in the ATM thefts also surfaced during their interrogation.
