A Russian National, Maksin Kusani, managed to escape from the custody of the Escort Cell while being escorted for trial before the Additional District Sessions Court in Mapusa on Wednesday. Quick action by the escort cell staff led to his capture after a chase of nearly 100 meters.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) Jivba Dalvi, the incident took place on Dec 6 at 4 pm when Maksin Kusani, who had been arrested by the ANC PS, was being transported by the escort staff. The daring escape provoked the escort cell staff to lodge a complaint at Mapusa Police Station, resulting in the registration of an offence under section 224 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Despite the escape, the escort cell staff successfully apprehended Maksin Kusani after a determined chase. Subsequently, he was then lodged in Central Jail, Colvale, by the escort staff.
Mapusa Police will now take custody of the accused Russian national by obtaining a transfer warrant. The investigation into the incident is currently underway, under the supervision of Police Inspector Shitakant Nayak, DySP Jivba Dalvi, and SP North Akshat Kaushal IPS.
