“There were two female doctors in the examination hall along with the him (male doctor). He asked me to remove my upper body clothing. He pressed my breasts and walked to his table without speaking a word,” she had narrated speaking to this reporter. “He should have checked me for injuries instead of pressing my breasts and walking away,” the victim said.
The medical examination, held in the presence of a lady constable and Russian-English interpreter, was despite lady doctors accompanying the senior male doctor. According to a senior GMC doctor, a male doctor cannot physically examine a woman victim of sexual offences unless she is referred for ‘age assessment.’
The then chief minister and present Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had immediately ordered for a magisterial inquiry. The report was thereafter submitted to the government but there has been no action taken, since, by then Parrikar was elevated to the Centre while the new CM Laxmikant Parsekar has not taken up the report as yet.
