PANAJI: The Russians accused of performing black magic on Tuesday clarified that they were only performing a classic Indian drama related to mythology that was based on an India epic about King Vikramaditya and his seven-year-long ordeal on the planet Saturn.
Olga Makhnovetsky, a Russian and Mikola Dranich, a Belarus national, theatre and film have been accused of indulging in black magic.
In response to the accusation, Makhnovetsky said, “The story of our performance belongs to an Indian King Vikramaditya and his seven-year ordeal on the planet Saturn. The story is of Indo culture. The colour of clothes used in this is traditionally black, which was misunderstood,” she said.
“We are just performers who love India, its rich heritage and wealth of knowledge and we feel it’s our privilege to look into these stories and show it to the people,” she said.
“We were misunderstood by some well-meaning locals who were trying to protect their loved ones from something harmful,” Olga added.
A group of mainly Russian citizens were seen performing a black magic like ritual at Bhomwado, Paliem after which some local youth and a panchayat member stopped the activity and complained regarding the act. The Pernem police had booked the organisers for the same.
