MARGAO: Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd has sent a proposal to the Goa government to spend Rs 35 crore on rail under bridges and over bridges from the Kullem to Margao railway track sector.
Two rail overbridges are proposed with one at Kullem and the other at Chandor where land is already acquired by the Public Works Department. While two rail under bridges are proposed at Dadhe, one each is proposed at Camral, Sao Jose de Areal and at Guirdolim.
It is proposed to construct three “animal crossings” in the forest areas between Kullem and Kalay where the tracks pass through forest areas. These animal crossings will be constructed at the cost of around Rs 15 crore to ensure that the animals are not hit by trains.
The proposal was sent to the State government last week and RVNL is all set to commence the work as the land is already in its possession to carry out the necessary works. Only the State government will have to prepare the approach roads for which it may have to acquire land. Meanwhile, the expansion of Margao to Vasco track has been hampered with the government failing to provide additional land required for the same as the process is still on.
