Ryan Braganza opts out

Sitting Councilor and noted businessman Ryan Branganza has decided not to contest the Mapusa Municipal election this time.
However, his mother will contest from Ward 8, the ward currently being represented by Ryan.
Since Ward 8 had been reserved for a woman candidate, Ryan had initially decided to contest from Ward 6.
“My supporters have requested me to field my mother, Ilma, from my Ward 8 and not to contest from Ward 6, as it would not be fair if two members of the same family contest the municipal elections,” Ryan told Herald.
“As per the wishes of my supporters, my mother, Ilma Brangaza, will file her nomination on Monday,” he added.
Since Ryan Braganza will not contest the elections from Ward 6, sitting councillor and former chairperson Roopa Bhakta now stands a good chance of retaining the seat.
