PONDA: Tension was rife in the air here after ryots went hammer and tongs over the non submission of accounts by the farmers committee on Sunday. The irate farmers even took pot shots at the Ponda Mamlatdar and the Government and threatened to stage an agitation for justice if the statement of accounts were not placed before the members. They demanded that the Chief Minister hold a vigilance probe into the matter and bring the case to its logical conclusion.
Things went awry at the meeting of the Bar-Amre Khajan Sheti Samiti at Madkai which was held on Sunday morning as the Samiti’s secretary and treasurer skipped the meeting. The farmers were promised that all the account details of the Samiti would be presented to them within eight days after the last meeting.
Samiti chairman Purushottam Gaude attended the meeting however secretary Daya Naik and treasurer Narayan Gaude did not.
At last, chairman Gaude promised the farmers of filing a complaint against the secretary and the treasurer for not depositing 60 lakh in the bank.
The farmers in last Sunday’s meeting had accused the Samiti officials of mishandling the funds and secretary Daya had assured to present the details of the last 6 years within the next 8 days. The farmers in the absence of the two, fired off a barrage of questions at the chairman and demanded that he call the duo over phone. The secretary and treasurer both still refused to attend the meeting.
Later, while talking to the local reporters, Chairman Purushottam said that he would be filing a complaint at the Ponda police station. “Both the secretary and the treasurer were not taking me into confidence for a while. I have already complained to Ponda Mamlatdar against the secretary Daya Naik for not depositing Rs 52 lakh in the bank. Naik has submitted the papers to Mamlatdar only two days back. Around Rs 60 lakh are yet to be deposited in the bank and so, I will be filing a complaint against them at the Ponda police station.”
