MARGAO: Strange it may seem, but true, that even as the Centre has set up the 7th Pay Commission to revise the salaries of government employees, many a police personnel posted in South Goa district claimed that they are still awaiting the payment of the arrears of the Sixth pay commission. DySP Mohan Naik, however, denied of any delay on the part of the department to clear the arrears.
The delay in the payment of arrears has stirred resentment amongst the police personnel, who claimed that that most of their north Goa counterparts have been fortunate enough to receive their arrears. Agitated policemen blamed the police higher ups for the inordinate delay, accusing them for not reigning in on the accounts section for expediting the payment of the arrears.
“It’s sad that the department is sitting on the claims of many a police personnel on payment of the arrears. This is grave injustice. The police higher ups sought to have reigned in on those responsible for payment of the arrears”, remarked a police officer, while sympathising with the police men.
Sources in the know said the matter was brought to the notice of the outgoing district police chief, Vijai Singh, who is believed to have expressed his shock and surprise over the matter.
Incidentally, when Herald contacted Margao Sub-divisional police officer, DySP Mohan Naik to shed light on the situation, he denied that cases are pending with the department. “There may be an odd case here or there. As per the rules, the arrears go in the Provident fund of the policemen,” DySP Mohan said, while denying any delay on the part of the department on the payment of arrears.
