S Goa electricity engineers to call on power minister

MARGAO: Electricity engineers from South Goa have expressed their concern over the functioning of the department and have decided to call on Power Minister Milind Naik to discuss some of the burning issues before them.

Power engineers who met in the city here discussed issues such as non-regularisation of the 101 junior engineers, who were appointed on ad-hoc basis in September 2012. They pointed out that the government has not honoured the proposal approved by the Cabinet in the year 2007 by going ahead with the granting of extensions/contractual appointments to the retired engineers.
They lamented the government has given charge of the post of executive engineers on officiating basis purely on pick and choose method to some of the engineers figuring in the seniority list of assistant engineers. “The government has not re-designated the existing degree engineers to technical assistants post in the department. There is also a  move by the department to fill the seven vacant posts of executive engineers by way of direct recruitment when there are engineers having over 32-33 years of experience with both degree/diploma qualifications”, informed Deepak Naik.
