MARGAO: South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha directed the Public Works Department officials to at least put some temporary signs wherever speed breakers are installed to caution people about the hurdle.
Chairing the District Road Safety Committee meeting on Wednesday, he informed, “There have been quite a few accidents caused by speed breakers which are not painted. There have been many accidents in Quepem particularly and I want at least temporary signs be put up warning people about the speed breaker.”
He also asked the Traffic Cell of the police to give him the details of their proposal to print leaflets to be distributed to school students educating them on road safety.
“There is a proposal to have permanent structures for police by the road side and I have asked the officials to give me the priority list and its estimates,” he said while admitting that such structures are required as police have to face the nature all times.
Francisco Sardinha asked for a detailed proposal to have a rail over bridge at Comba as the rail under bridge gets flooded during monsoons and three pumps have to be used to drain the water. Initial estimate for the rail over bridge is Rs. 30 crore and Sardinha said he would try and get Konkan Railway Corporation to sponsor it.
