Eighty‑five workers from Surla‑Digne, laid off abruptly few months ago while employed at a mining company, have launched a protest along with their families, warning they will continue the struggle until they are reinstated. The workers say the sudden termination has pushed them to the brink of starvation and caused severe financial and psychological distress.
Over the past year, they have repeatedly approached the Chief Minister, the Deputy Collector and mine officials, demanding their jobs back, but without any concrete response. Now, united with their families, they have vowed to keep the protest going until the administration and the company offer a resolution. The standoff has created a tense atmosphere in the area, with mounting calls on the government to intervene urgently and restore their livelihoods.
