VASCO: Two months after a Sada sub-jail inmate was assaulted by a prisoner, another incident of such assault was reported on Thursday. As in the first case, this time too, the victim refused to lodge a complaint against the inmates fearing further assault.
On Thursday morning, Riyaz Ibrahim (35) was assaulted by senior inmate/s for not obeying the rules set by the seniors.
According to the information, the incident occurred at around 7 am when Ibrahim, a junior inmate in the jail, was rushing to use the toilet before getting ready to attend the hearing of his case in a Mapusa court.
“An argument broke out between him and few senior inmates over using toilet. The seniors have made a rule that they would use the toilet first, after which the juniors could use it. Since the victim was in a hurry, he refused to obey the rules and in anger one of the senior inmates hit the victim on his head with an object,” sources said.
Since the victim was bleeding, the jail authorities took him to cottage hospital, where the wound was stitched. Later, he was taken to Mapusa court, where the victim complained to the court that has was assaulted by the inmates and requested to be transferred at Colvale jail. His request was granted and he was transferred to Colvale Jail.
