Safety measures to be implemented at Uzro-Raia accident hotspot

MARGAO: In response to concerns raised by the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) and citizens regarding the accident-prone zone at Uzro-Raia, government authorities conducted a second inspection on Thursday to address the issue and prevent future accidents.

The inspection, attended by various officials including Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, GSCPCR Commissioner Peter Borges, PWD Superintending Engineer Prasad Panandikar, Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Prabodh Shirwaikar, and Police Inspector of Traffic Cell, Margao, Gautam Salunke, aimed to implement necessary safety measures.

During the inspection, it was decided to extend the dividers until the junction and reduce the gap, as well as install signals and blinkers at the site.

Concerns were raised by Raia residents about the ineffectiveness of the current rumblers, as vehicles continued to speed on both sides, leaving residents in Solva and Gavon wards struggling to cross the road.

Commissioner Peter Borges emphasized the need for a second

inspection to ensure thorough safety measures are in place.

According to PI Gautam Salunke, they will be writing to the Collector’s office to replace the rumblers with more effective speed breakers at the site to control traffic speed.
