PANJIM, DEC 17
Vishwa Hindu Parishad will discuss the constant branding of Hindu organizations as ‘saffron terror outfits’ by the Centre and like minded forces during their international meeting of trustees at Ramnathi in Goa.
“The whole idea of saffron terror is a fragment of imagination that has been purposely phrased to please the minority votes. Its sheer vote bank politics,” VHP’s national vice president Ashok Chowgule told reporters.
Briefing presspersons about Ramnathi’s conference, he also slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his comments warning the US about Hindu extremists.
“There is unjustified propaganda against the Hindu organisations by vested interests and conspiracy to divide the country. Such comments are not in the interest of the nation,” he said.
The six-day conference scheduled to begin on January 4, 2011 will also discuss other issues like the ‘temple in honour of Rama at the Janmabhoomi’ and issues relating to Jammu and Kashmir.
“In addition, other organisational and administrative matters will be discussed with a focus on expanding the service activities undertaken by the VHP,” he said adding that the event in Goa was earlier held in 1978.
When asked about the Sanatan Sanstha’s alleged involvement in violence, the VHP leader said that they don’t believe in violent tactics and instead wants issue to be settled in peaceful manner.
“We have never taken violence to resolve issues…But when Hindu issues and concerns are not addressed or considered, unfortunate incidents can happen,” he added.
The high profile meeting will have the attendance of about 350 delegates from across the country and 50 from overseas. The meeting is divided into two parts, wherein region-wise meetings will be held on the first three days and meeting of the Central Board of Trustees will be held on the remaining days.
The meeting will be chaired by VHP International President Ashok Singal, International Working President Shreenivas Vedantmani, International General Secretaries and others.
