Sagarmala: Aldona opposes proposed passenger jetty

MAPUSA: The Aldona special gram sabha on Sunday passed a resolution strongly objecting the proposed passenger jetty in the village under the Sagarmala project.

During the meeting, Deputy Captain of Ports Premnath Sirsaikar during the presentation explained to the gram sabha members about the passenger jetty under Sagarmala project.

Sirsaikar briefed them on the project, its advantages, features, cost, size etc.

After the presentation, the official was questioned by the villagers who raised their doubts on the project.

The locals said the concern of government to reduce vehicular pressure on roads by constructing jetty is mere an eyewash and instead, the government should first provide basis facilities for the villagers.

The gram sabha members asked the Deputy Captain of ports to produce the DPR for their reference, which they had asked during the last meeting held in July 2019. However, the official failed to produce the same.

When questioned as to when the DPR was prepared and send for approval to the central ministry and why was it not uploaded on their website, the Deputy Captain of Ports failed to provide satisfactory answers.

The members questioned him as to why he attended the meeting unprepared, the Deputy Captain of Ports walked out of the meeting hall during the discussion.
