PANJIM: Sairaj Ghosarwadkar topped the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) as his total score for chemistry and mathematics stood at 143 out of 150. He, however, did not appear for the physics paper.
The GCET results were declared on Tuesday by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE). GCET, held on July 29 and 30, is conducted for admissions to professional degree courses – engineering and pharmacy.
Sairaj was top scorer in Chemistry (70) and Mathematics (73). There are three more students with score of 73 in mathematics – Swatit Valaulicar, Joshua Dias Barreto and Manali Manjarekar. The score in mathematics has improved by a mark compared to 72 scored in 2020. So also for chemistry, wherein 72 was the highest last year.
Aditya Bhat toped in physics with 59 marks out of 75, which is lower compared to last year’s score of 70.
DTE Director Vivek Kamat said GCET was answered by 2,935 students this year across 16 centres. Around 2,829 appeared for physics, while 2,810 answered chemistry. In all 2033 students attempted mathematics.
The average marks scored by students dropped to 21.74 in physics compared to last year’s 22.51. In chemistry the average score was 24.86 as against 27.47 in 2020.
In mathematics, the average marks scored went up to 28.17 in comparison to last year’s 26.96.
Kamat said for physics, while the top score was 59, the minimum scored by a student was 1. For chemistry, the top score remained 70 with 9 as the minimum, while for mathematics too nine was the lowest score while 73 was the highest.
Kamat said the portal for admission to engineering and pharmacy will be opened shortly.
DTE in their analysis observed that several students have left questions unanswered, despite having no negative marking. “Students need to attempt every question since there is no negative marking. Teachers need to train students on this,” Kamat said.
