MARGAO: Twenty-five of the 30-odd village panchayats in Salcete have received notices from the Salcete Block Development Office (BDO) directing them to complete their pending gram sabhas in the next two weeks.
“In exercise of powers conferred under sub-section 5 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994, the BDO hereby convenes ordinary gram sabhas meeting in the village panchayats in Salcete block as the sarpanch of the respective village has failed to convene the ordinary gram sabha meeting in the month of January 2023 as specified in sub-section (I) of Section 5 of the act,” read the order of the BDOs.
From the group of 25, the following panchayats will hold their gram sabhas on February 19, Sunday at 10 am, namely, Rachol, Curtorim, Cana Benaulim, Varca, Orlim, Carmona, Betalbatim, Raia, Colva, Cavelossim, Nuvem and Loutolim. The remaining set of panchayats – Ambelim, Assolna, Sarzora, Sao Jose de Areal, Aquem Baixo, Davorlim-Dicarpale, Rumdamol, Macazana, Chandor, Guirdolim and Paroda – will hold their gram sabha on February 26, Sunday at 10 am.
