Salcete firemen tirelessly clear roads blocked by uprooted trees, landslides

MARGAO: The heavy rainfall in Salcete resulted in several incidents of uprooted trees and a landslide, causing significant damage and obstructing traffic. The Cuncolim Fire Station Officer, Dilesh Gaonker, received information about a landslide at Goechebhat in Velim, that blocked the road. Fireman N.G. Naik visited the site with his team and after three hours of concerted efforts, the road was cleared.

Naik’s team also chopped up and cleared the debris of a mango tree that fell on the road at Admen, Balli.

The Margao Fire Station remained vigilant as they received reports of five tree falling incidents in Salcete. Fire Station Officer Gil Souza stated that a jungle tree had fallen near the railway station in Margao. The firefighting team led by S.V. Mayekar rushed to the location and cleared the area after two hours.

In another case, the branch of a jungle tree fell on the road near Father Arraupe Institute at Sonarwada, Raia. Duty Officer M.B. Velip and his firefighting team visited the site, cut the tree, and cleared the area.

Furthermore, a tree fell on the road in Seraulim. Firefighter S.P. Dessai promptly attended the emergency call. Another tree fell near Shree Shani Temple in Moddi Navelim, and Mateus Vaz, Sub officer, successfully cleared the area. Margao Fire Station Officer Souza reported that a tree fell near Bhatikar High School in Gokul Housing Board, Margao. Firefighter Ramnath S. Khotkar and his team swiftly cut the tree and cleared the road. In addition to these incidents, the Margao firemen responded to several minor calls about fallen branches and trees in private properties as well.
