Salcete panchayats asked to make gram sabhas on Oct 2 meaningful

MARGAO: The panchayats in Salcete have been directed o make the special gram sabha on October 2 more meaningful and with greater participation to prepare the draft Village Development Plan based on which panchayats will get grants under the 14th Finance Commission for works.
The government has directed 10 departments to depute a representative to all the gram sabhas to submit status of that particular village with the department. The departments so directed are the Health Services, Child Development Project Officer, Zonal Agriculture Officer, Veterinary Services & Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Tribal Welfare.
Besides, Assistant Engineers of Water Resources Department and Electricity Departments and Public Health Engineering and roads and buildings officials are also asked to attend these gram sabhas.
Besides explaining the importance of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan to the people by officials of the Village Development Committee, these officials will give a report on where the village stands based on which the committee can plan for future requirements.
Some villages have sent special messages to certain government departments to give them status of their village as many coastal villages have sought to know about Coastal Regulation Zone while Chandor Cavorim panchayat has asked the police to give figures of migrants registered with the police.
