MARGAO: In wake of Panchayati Raj Day, several village panchayats of Salcete Taluka held special gram sabha meetings on Sunday, and resolved to achieve “Jal Jeevan Mission” by 2024, besides to work towards “Clean and Green Village”.
“Jal Jeevan Mission” is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
This programme is also focused on implementing source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.
CHINCHINIM
At the special gram sabha meeting of Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua, members gave priorities to make their village healthy and child friendly. It has also been resolved to stress on achieving the goal of clean and green villages, besides good governance by 2024.
“Gram sabha members have suggested that garbage collection should be more frequent, besides taking up the works of cleaning the road and common facilities for disposal,” Deputy Sarpanch Valentino Barretto said.
He further said that villagers also raised the issue pertaining to excess water bills and requested the local MLA to look into the matter.
On the sideline of the Panchayat Raj Day, the panchayat also felicitated MLA Cruz Silva, Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares, Salcete Block Development Officer Amitesh Shirvoikar and Fire Officer Herculano Gil D’Souza for their services towards the society. Members of the Village Development Committee and tiatr artistes from the village were also felicitated at the hands of the guests.
CURTORIM
Villagers of Curtorim at the special gram sabha meeting resolved to adopt all the seven themes given by the Directorate of Panchayats.
As informed by Sarpanch Milagres Rodrigues, “Jal Jeevan Mission” was one of the themes amongst the seven, which stressed on providing taps to every household by 2024 under the Central government scheme.
“We have been asked to choose three on the priority basis, but members of the gram sabha demanded to adopt all nine,” he said.
Theme four states that a village with functional house tap connections to all, with targeted standard of quality water supply, good water management and abundant water availability for agriculture and all needs, besides conserving its water ecosystem.

A special gram sabha meeting conducted by Village Panchayat Raia witnessed a very less participation of members. However, they choose “Clean and Green Village”, as the priority to be achieved by 2024.
“The panchayat body has resolved to adopt the theme of creating a village for the future of our children, which is lush and green with nature’s bounty, using renewable energy, clean, protecting environment and climate resilient,” Panch Mario D’Souza said.
As informed by the sarpanchas, several other village panchayats have also conducted the special gram sabha meeting to mark the Panchayat Raj Day and passed resolutions pertaining to the betterment of their villages.
