Salcete politician planning to hold dhirios at five places!

MARGAO: ‘Dhirio’ (bullfight) is nothing new in South Goa and especially in the coastal belt of Salcete, which has witnessed a sharp increase in it recently. Sources said that a politician from Salcete is planning to organise dhirios at five different places simultaneously to celebrate the birthday of his family member.
Taking serious note of this, Norma Alvares of ‘People For Animals’ has submitted a memorandum to the Colva and Verna Police Stations urging them to remain alert. Norma has demanded that the authorities put an end to dhirios.
In the memorandum, Alvares stated that there are reports that dhirios were organised at four separate locations on August 7, 8, and 9. Besides, dhirios have been held in the Colva Police Station jurisdiction recently.
People For Animals has also written to the top police official to stop dhirio immediately.
Colva Police said they have initiated action against a few with regards to organising dhirio at Fatrade-Varca on Wednesday.
It is pertinent to note that despite the court ban, dhirio has become routine affair for bullfight lovers. However, there has been a sharp increase in bullfights in Salcete, mostly in the coastal belt, including Benaulim, Seraulim, Cansaulim, Colva, Fatrade, etc.
Sources said most dhirios are being organised early morning.
