MARGAO: Various parts of Salcete faced lengthy and frequent power cuts not just on Friday but also over the last couple of days, inconveniencing residents and putting their electrical appliances at risk.
The recent thunderstorms accompanied by heavy winds have been cited as the problem with the Power Department staff being pressed into service round-the-clock to address and repair the multiple faults and breakdown in their power supply infrastructure.
Locals from other parts of Goa like Panjim, St Andre, Ponda, etc, also faced regular power outages while locals from Fatorda, Nuvem, and the coastal belt in Salcete have been dealing with frequent power outages, especially when it rains.
“Our air conditioners have already stopped working as the power would trip due to high-voltage related problems. We are worried as to what will happen when the monsoon begins. The Power department staff were on their toes last year and hopefully we don’t have extreme weather conditions this time too as the State is not yet prepared for the same and this can be seen in the many power cuts in a single day,” said Rashila Fernandes from Velim.
Officials from the power department stated the heavy winds had damaged various infrastructures which needed attending to and some in cases, replacement.
The Goa Electricity Twitter handle has also been giving constant updates about the efforts of the Power department.
