MARGAO: The Salcete Truck Transport Owners Association has requested the government to relax the Global Positioning System (GPS) charges.
The Salcete Truck Transport Owners Association  delegation led by president Franky Gomes met the former MLA and has requested him to raise the issue with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
“We were paying Rs 525 per truck for a month for GPS recharge. But the Government has recently increased the same to Rs 8,000 for year, which is very high” the delegation said.
“Please take note that the charges are not for mining business and that the GPS business is only for 3 months” the delegation further said.
“We request you to restore the old rate of Rs 525 per month and that the Govt may charge the new annual rate of Rs 8000 but at the same time give us business,” said Franky Gomes.
The former MLA told the delegation that he would raise the issue with the Chief Minister during his meeting on Friday. He said he would push for fulfilling their demands and would also raise the issue of the truckers who have not received the support package from the Government.
