MARGAO: With the panchayat elections around the corner, villagers across Salcete are worried that pending development initiatives as well as pre monsoon works may get sidelined as focus will shift to the elections.
A major concern about the locals is that when there are torrential rains, there is always a problem with water logging and related issues in their villages when the monsoon sets in. However, given that the panchayat elections are likely to be held by the end of May or first week of June, they fear that the panchayats may not be able to devote time to issues that may crop up once it starts raining.
Against that backdrop, they have urged the panchayats and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to expedite the pre-monsoon works so that they are completed before June.
At recent gram sabhas, concerns were also expressed that panchayat bodies may not be able to follow through on resolutions and promise a course of action due to the elections.
