The saffron brigade had a bad experience with Xaxti minorities after Manoharbhai’s mission Salcete had come a cropper exactly a decade ago. Once beaten, twice shy, so goes the saying and the saffron brigade took no chances this time round, launching a multi-pronged strategy to ensure the minority vote did not go the Congress way en masse. They are now not only hoping of multiple splits in the minority vote, but are hoping against hope that Churchillbab, Shallom and the Aam Admi garner sizeable vote in the minority heartland. Do not be surprised if someone claim that senior leaders made a last ditch attempt to convince minority leaders to support the TMC, AAP or Shallom in Xaxtidom if they cannot back the party candidate. Indeed a smart move when the minority religious leaders had gone all out to tell the voters to vote out the communal parties. But, the saffron brigade is now faced with a million dollar question which is expected to haunt them till May 16 — how come 1.60 lakh Xaxticars came out for voting when the Congress had no organisation or wherewithal to man a booth, leave alone workers to bring out the voters. Even IITian Manoharbhai may find the minority turnout a complex puzzle.
