Saleli women for ban on illegal liquor sale

SATTARI: The Saleli village women submitted a memorandum to Valpoi Deputy Collector Rajesh Azgaonkar to put a ban on illegal sell of liquor in the village, on Monday.

In the memorandum, the women stated that there is no single registered liquor bar in their village but still six to seven persons are selling liquor illegally.

“Because of easy availability of liquor in the village, many people from other villages are also patronising the illegal sale. The selling of illegal liquor in large quantity has disturbed the peace and harmony of many families in the village, say the villagers.

“All the village women have requested the persons who run the illegal liquor bars, to stop the sale,” said a village woman.

“We have also complained to the Valpoi Excise Department to take action on these people but they are not taking any because they are getting commission. Also requested not to permit or grant licences to them,” she added.
