MARGAO: The 200th birth anniversary of St Don Bosco was celebrated at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Sunday with fervour and joy. To celebrate the occasion, the Don Bosco community had organized the programme.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar lit the lamp and inaugurated the 200th Birth anniversary function. Fr Ian Figuerado, provincial of Panjim and Konkan Region, Fr Savio Gomes, principal of Don Bosco College, Panjim; Sister Agatha & Fr Hilsa were also present at the celebration.
On the occasion, the Department of Posts released First Day Postal Cover to commemorate the of 200th Birth Anniversary at the hands of chief minister, Post Master General Vinodkumar Verma and others.
The celebration begun with cake cutting and garlanding of the statue of St Don Bosco; later, two booklets on the saint and his work in various fields were also released at the hands of the chief guests.
“Don Bosco had sown the seeds of which the fruits are seen today all over the country. Not just 200, even at 2000 and 5000 years birth anniversary, the fruits of St Don Bosco tree will be working for the betterment of the youth and the downtrodden and it is my strong belief,” said Parsekar.
