Salgini villagers demand replacement of tilted electric pole before monsoon

SANGUEM: The villagers of Salgini-Sanguem on Friday urged the Electricity Department to immediately replace an electricity pole, which stand tilted for few months now.

A villager, Gourish Gaonkar said the pole has been in a leaning position over the last four to five months and needs to be replaced before the onset of monsoons.

“During the monsoon season, the mud in the area will get loose and this will cause the pole, which is in precarious condition, to be a danger to passersby,” said Gaonkar.

The pole had a slight bend earlier, however after the recent cyclonic winds, the pole has now tilted all the more and there are possibilities of it falling during the monsoon which ultimately will put the hilly areas of Verlem and Salgini into darkness.

BJP Mahila vice president Savitri Kavlekar met the Executive Engineer Vinayak Mhalsekar and briefed him of the dangerous condition of the pole and requested him to get the pole relocated on urgent basis.

Kavlekar also highlighted the issue of underground cabling work at Netravali village which has been going on since last year with no clear cut details as to when the department will complete the same.

“Executive Engineer Mhalsekar has assured in getting the pole replaced and also to looking into the affairs of the long pending underground cable work in Netravali village,” said Kavlekar.

Incidentally, while the Electricity Department recently worked tirelessly to put in place the electricity cables which were damaged by the Cyclonic Tauktae, they failed in relocating the electricity pole which has been found leaning for the past several months.
