MAPUSA: Saligao MLA and former port minister Jayesh Salgaonkar on Saturday claimed that Saligao Constituency is facing hardship due to power supply issue.
Salgaonkar said, “The 135 crore sub-station project for Saligao was a bypass route to transfer electricity directly from Colvale to Saligao. At present, the power supply which reaches Saligao passes through three sub-stations and whenever any issues occur at any of these power stations Saligao is affected.”
“The work order of the Saligao sub-station was ready but I don’t know why the tender is cancelled. The tender was in favour of one of the best company which would have given best infrastructure. However as per the minister, the tender is cancelled because he wants to upgrade the technology,” the MLA added.
“We are suffering since we are at the tale point. The consistency is facing constant power cuts. Also since the tourism circuit that is Calangute is close by, all the power supply of Saligao gets transferred to Calangute” Salgaonkar said.
“Now the project will be re-tendered but we are unaware of when it will be re-tendered and also whether the government is ready to give financial approval for this project or not is a big question,” he said.
Salgaonkar said, “The purpose of this project was to transfer power from Colvale to Saligao. At present there is requirement of infrastructure to transfer power supply such as cables line to carry power and more and thus the project would have sorted the issue permanently.”
