Saligao Police arrest two for stealing car

MAPUSA: Saligao Police on Tuesday arrested Shabbir Shaifulla Shikarpurkar, aged 32 years, resident of Mapusa and Kassim Nabisab Eklaskar, aged 30 years, resident of Sangolda, for allegedly assaulting four domestic tourists and driving away with their car.

According to the police, Arun Ashok Malvankar, aged 28 years, resident of Porba Waddo, Calangute lodged a complaint at Saligao Police Station stating that on Monday at around 20.30 hours near Hotel Spring Height, Sangolda, alleged accused Shikarpurkar along with his associate with common intension wrongfully restrained the four occupants of Swift Car, hailing from Indore, Madhya Pradesh and who were on vacation in the State, while they were proceeding from Hotel Westwood Residence, Pilerne to Panjim. Further, the alleged accused assaulted the four tourists with slaps and threatened with dire consequences. However, the scared tourists managed to escape from the spot. Taking advantage of the same, both the accused persons drove away with the occupants’ car.

Acting on the complaint, a team consisting of Police Sub-Inspector Atikesh Khedekar, Constable Gauresh Naik, Sarvesh Gawas and HG Driver Avinash Gimonkar nabbed Shikarpurkar at Tivim petrol pump while he was trying to escape with the stolen car.

The second team led by Police Inspector Milind Bhuimbar, PSI Atikesh Khedekar, Constable Nandan Arabekar, Sandesh Aroskar, Gauresh Naik, Vijaynath Palni, Vishant Mayekar, Nilesh Mandrekar and Rahul Angolkar managed to nab second alleged accused Eklaskar, near Audit Bhavan, Porvorim.

The alleged accused Shikarpurkar had removed the number plates of the car and was proceeding to Belgaum, Karnataka to dispose of the stolen car. PSI Atikesh Khedekar is further investigating the case.
