MAPUSA: JMFC, Mapusa on Wednesday remanded 66-year-old Joseph Gerald D’Souza of Pequen Morod at Saligao to 14 days judicial custody in connection with the assault on the parish priest of Mae de Deus Church, Saligao. The accused is lodged in Central Jail at Colvale.
It may be recalled that on Tuesday several villagers gheraoed the Saligao Police Station after Joseph allegedly assaulted the parish priest and further threatened him with dire consequences. In this connection, the parish priest lodged a complaint and acting on the complaint, the accused was arrested. The Saligao Police registered an offence under Sections 341, 323, 504 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code.
