Saligao taxi driver attacked in broad daylight; 2 arrested

Attackers rob Rs 18,000 in cash, ATM cards and driving licence; Two accused still absconding

SALIGAO: A local taxi driver, Sandeep Uglekar from Cruz Waddo, Saligao was attacked just a few metres from his house by two Karnataka natives and was robbed of Rs 18,000 in cash, ATM cards and his driving licence. 
Saligao police managed to apprehend the duo – Sachin Rathod and Akshay Pawar who were currently residing at Orda, Candolim and are in their early twenties. Two other accused are absconding.  
The Investigating Officer from Saligao Police Station, Amarnath Passi informed that the incident occurred at around 5pm on Wednesday. The driver was returning home from Calangute when he was attacked and robbered by four persons. 
“The victim parked his car around 50 meters before his residence and was talking on the phone. Two people came from behind, one snatched his phone and threw it on the ground while the second accused punched him and took away his wallet,” said Passi.
The attackers later fled from the scene with the help of two of their accomplishes who were waiting on two bikes, a Pulsar and Activa respectively. 
The Saligao Police arrested the duo who were on the Activa and are on the lookout for the other two on the Pulsar.
During the personal search and interrogation of the accused a knife was found under the floor mat of the Activa. During the panchanama the bike and the knife have been attached.
The victim sustained injuries on his forehead as he was assaulted with slaps, fist blows and kicks. He later underwent treatment at District Hospital at Mapusa.
A case has been registered under Section 394 Indian Penal Code (IPC). The JMFC, Mapusa remanded the duo to one day police custody.
According to the police, the duo are involved in similar cases of chain snatching and robbery in the past.
The case is being investigated by PSI Amarnath Passi under the supervision of Saligao PI.
