Samajwadi Samagam objects to comunidades’ destruction

Appreciates the State’s age-old ‘Gaunkari’ system

MARGAO: Samajwadi Samagam, which has launched an all India rally to popularise non-violence and non-cooperation advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, objected to the destruction of the comunidades in State and appealed to Governor Satya Pal Malik to beautify Lohia Maidan, here, on Wednesday.

Briefing the mediapersons, Dr Sunilam of the Samagam said, “They visited the Maidan on Tuesday and were aghast to see the pathetic condition there. It is an insult to the person who launched Goa’s freedom movement.”

“Goa’s Governor is a self admitted Lohia’s disciple and he should do something to beautify the place so that it would be a befitting tribute to the person who introduced the idea of freedom in Goa,” he said.

The Samagam members also called on Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who apparently complained about the unethical politics practiced in State, where people change political parties at the drop of a hat. However, the Samagam members were not aware that Digambar himself is a defector.

Appreciating that the age-old “Gaunkari” system was kept alive in State through the comunidades, he said their organisation supports all struggles in Goa against attempts to dilute the comunidade and added that they will back the people against the government’s attempt to gobble their land.

Dr Sunilam also appealed to Goans not to register their names in the National Population Registrar (NPR) as and when the exercise commences and cautioned that it will be extremely difficult to fight against government’s sinister plans if the name is registered in the NPR.

He also congratulated Goans for their victory in getting the government to withdraw Section 144 that was imposed in North Goa and also the cancellation of classification of 56 villages as urban areas.

He along with Adv Aradhana Bhargava from Madhya Pradesh made a fervent appeal to Goans to stop the coal hub being set up in the State.

Adv Aradhana explained how they have been struggling in Madhya Pradesh against the Adanis who have illegally grabbed the farmers land for their project.

The Samajwadi Vichar Yatra that was launched on January 30, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi has arrived in State after going through Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. From Goa, it will now proceed to Telengana, Tamil Nadu and end on March 23, at Hyderabad.

The second phase will start on April 11 from Champaran and end on May 17, at Patna after covering 10 States while the third phase will start on October 11 from Sitabadiuyara in Uttar Pradesh and end on October 31, at Narendra Niketan, in New Delhi.

The main aim of the rally is to promote non co-operation and non-violence amongst the younger generation. The organisation interacted with Rainbow Warriors, an organisation that has been taking up environmental issues in the State.
