CANACONA: In the election held for the post of the chairperson of Canacona municipality, Samita Dhuri was declared elected unopposed as hers was the only nomination filed for the post.
The post of chairperson fell vacant after Prathana Naik Gaonkar had resigned a couple of weeks ago, warranting election for the post of chairperson on Thursday morning. The presiding officer Rohit Kadam read out the election process and since there was only one nomination received, the presiding officer declared Samita elected unopposed in the presence of nine out of the ten councilors, chief officer Raju Desai and well wishers of Samita Dhuri.
Samita had resigned from the post of deputy chairperson a few weeks ago in anticipation of her elevation to the top post in the council. Later, while accepting the responsibility of the chairperson, Samita thanked all the councillors for reposing faith in her abilities and assured all present that she would work for the development of all the ten wards of the municipality.
