PANJIM: The Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, has demanded that the government gets moving on the issue of the drafting of a new textbook rather than continue to impose a NCERT textbook on the students.
“In all the states the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) chalks out the syllabus from Std V to XII. In spite of an SCERT in Goa, why are we following NCERT syllabus?” Vallabh Kelkar of the samiti questioned.
“Recently, the Goa Board secretary through a letter has informed that there was no decision on the syllabus of Std IX, X and XII but they are in the process of coming up with a new book of Std X and that the discussion over the book is going on,” Kelkar said, also referring to how there was a lot of rhetoric on the issue of including the Cuncolim Revolt in textbooks but no actual movement on the ground.
They also criticized the UPSC for making English proficiency mandatory and expressed support to MPs who raised the issue and called on the government to come clean on the issue.
