VASCO: Sancoale parishioners along with the parish priest and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha had a meeting with the Deputy Collector of Mormugao to discuss the recent issue pertaining to the trespassing into the church premises, on Monday.
The parishioners and MLA explained about the incident to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and stressed on registering an FIR against the people, who have allegedly trespassed and performed religious rituals.
They informed Deputy Collector of Mormugao Sachin Desai about the incident which occurred on December 30, wherein some 25 odd persons of some community allegedly performed their religious ritual in the church premises, which caused shock among the parishioners.
Fr Luis Alvares, requested the Deputy Collector to act quickly in the matter citing that from January 7, religious activities related to St Joseph Vaz Feast, are going to start and for that peaceful and harmonious ambience is required.
The priest and others also demanded that an FIR should be filed against those people who reportedly trespassed into the church’s property.
Deputy Collector Desai gave a patient hearing to them and assured that he will discuss the issue with the police and will ask for a report on the action taken.
Later, speaking to the reporters Cortalim MLA said that this is probably for the first time in our State such a situation has occurred and I condemned it. Our State is known all over the world for having religious harmony.
