Sancoale P’yat secretary under fire for lapses in house number allocation, ignoring directives

MARGAO: The issuance of over 2,000 EHN house numbers by the Sancoale Village Panchayat secretary has come under severe scrutiny due to alleged procedural lapses.  According to the Mormugao Block Development Officer (BDO), the Secretary is accused of issuing these house numbers without a formal resolution or approval from the panchayat body and without conducting necessary site inspections. Two previous memos sent to him in this regard have been ignored, prompting the Mormugao BDO to issue yet another.

In the latest memorandum issued on May 28, the BDO cites three memos dated April 1, 15 and 22, directing the Village Panchayat Secretary to investigate the matter and take appropriate action according to the Goa Panchayati Raj Act, 1994. They also required the submission of an action taken report along with all related documents and records. However, despite these clear directives, the secretary has yet to submit the required report.

“The concerned Village Panchayat Secretary of

Village Panchayat Sancoale is hereby once again directed to submit your report to the said Memorandum within a period of 3 days from issue of this Memorandum. This is for strict compliance,” said the memorandum issued by BDO Emanuel Da Costa.
