VASCO: The Sancoale Village Panchayat has decided to kick-start the drive to remove political advertisements from public places under its jurisdiction.
According to Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar, the issue of mushrooming of political banners, posters was raised in the recently held body meeting wherein members claimed that political parties have erected hundreds of banners at various nooks and corners including the road median and road setback area.
“After majority of the members raised their serious concerns over the political advertisements in form of banners and posters at public places, we have now decided to take action against illegal publicity material by removing all such political banners from coming Monday and we will also issue notices to the concern political parties for erecting the banners/posters without obtaining any permission from the Panchayat body which is mandatory under Panchayati Raj Act” Borkar said.
He further said, “Though we have no objection to such publicity material, but there should be a limit for the number of banners installed by any party. Today, one can find such political banners at all nooks and corners of the village and they have even decorated the road median and bus stops with their banners that too without obtaining permission from local body and hence to teach them a lesson we have taken such harsh decision and a similar drive would continue even in future,” he told.
