VASCO: A no-confidence motion was passed against Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar after a special meeting at the panchayat, on Tuesday. The motion was passed against Borkar by nine votes.
Ramakant and his wife Sunita, who is a panch member, were absent for the meeting.
Village panchayat Secretary Krishna Gaude informed that a date for the election of new sarpanch of Sancoale panchayat will be decided soon. Deputy sarpanch Sucorina Walles will handle the panchayat affairs until the new sarpanch is elected.
Speaking to the media after the no-confidence motion was passed, Walles said, “The no- motion was filed against the outgoing sarpanch Borkar as he was not doing the work of other panch members. This was confirmed by some other members of the panchayat too.”
It may be recalled that on October 5, nine out of 11 panch members of Sancoale panchayat had filed a no-confidence motion against Borkar at the Mormugao Block Development Office. This development to oust Borkar as a sarpanch came as a shocker to many as the councillors who had moved the motion against Borkar were seen present during several public functions especially during the recent inaugural function of Material Recovery Facility at Zuarinagar-Sancoale.
